A strong alarm has been raised on social media by Albanian-American activist Evi Kokalari, who has openly denounced that Albania is being sold to the sheikhs of the United Arab Emirates, with the blessing of Prime Minister Edi Rama himself.
The successive visits of top Emirati officials to Tirana, held in silence and without public transparency, are a clear signal that important deals are being made behind closed doors. Albania risks being turned into private property, where citizens no longer have a voice or land.
Tirana once again became the stage for a high-profile, yet highly enigmatic visit. In a recently shared photo on social media, two very important figures from the United Arab Emirates appear: in white, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, CEO of the giant investment fund Mubadala, and next to him, the UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

But what raises even more concern is the presence in Albania – for the second time within a short period – of Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and one of the most influential figures in the Arab world and beyond. A visit that received no media coverage, and has been covered in a worrying silence by Albanian state institutions.
What is happening behind the closed doors of the Albanian government?
These visits are not simply diplomatic courtesies. The presence of Khaldoon Al Mubarak, a key figure in the global financial world, clearly implies that major investment agreements are being negotiated in Tirana, without transparency and without going through the institutional filters of a democratic country.
Let us recall that Mubadala controls billions of dollars in assets and holds strategic investments in technology, energy, healthcare, tourism, and infrastructure across the globe. If such a figure is in Albania, then it is clear: the Albanian government has opened the gates for a massive sell-off of national assets.
Is Albania at risk of becoming private property?
These developments are happening at a time when Albanian citizens face unemployment, mass emigration, rampant corruption, and a deepening loss of hope. Meanwhile, Edi Rama’s government appears to function like a “private company,” where he is the CEO, shareholder, and sole beneficiary, while the country is being presented to foreign investors as a “vacant lot” for sale at bargain prices.

Why should we be alarmed?
The fact that Mohamed bin Zayed and Khaldoon Al Mubarak are in Tirana for an unofficial visit, not disclosed through the official channels of the state, is a clear alarm signal for every Albanian who still believes in the country’s political and economic sovereignty.
This is not simply diplomacy or economic cooperation. This is a total surrender of the state to foreign interests, at a time when every serious country in Europe and the world is fiercely protecting its strategic resources.
